Frequently asked questions.
What services does Biomed Consulting & Services provide?
We provide full-service biomedical equipment support including preventive maintenance (PM), calibrations, repairs, equipment certification, inventory tracking, and compliance documentation. We service a wide range of medical devices including sterilizers, anesthesia machines, surgery tables, patient monitors, defibrillators, vital-signs equipment, exam tables, and more.
Do you service equipment on-site?
Yes. We perform all PMs, certification services, and most repairs onsite at your facility to minimize downtime and disruption to patient care.
What types of facilities do you work with?
We support hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, dental offices, urgent care clinics, primary care clinics, veterinary facilities, and independent medical practices.
How often should medical equipment be inspected or serviced?
Service intervals depend on manufacturer specifications. We follow OEM-recommended PM intervals and procedures. If a device does not have published guidelines, we follow Alternative Equipment Maintenance (AEM) protocols based on industry standards.
Do you provide documentation for compliance inspections?
Absolutely. Each service includes detailed inspection reports, calibration data (when applicable), and certification labels. All documentation meets DNV, Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory requirements.
Do you provide emergency repair services?
Yes. We offer flexible scheduling and rapid response times to get critical equipment back into service as quickly as possible. Our hours are Mon-Sat 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Are your technicians certified?
Yes. Our technicians are certified Biomedical Equipment Technicians and have extensive experience in biomedical field. We follow manufacturer service manuals, OEM training, and industry best practices for all inspections and repairs.
Can you help prepare for state or accreditation inspections?
Absolutely. We can perform a facility-wide check of equipment status, identify compliance gaps, update PM records, and ensure all devices are properly labeled and documented before an audit.
What is your turnaround time?
Preventive maintenance is usually scheduled within 1–2 business days. Repairs and parts-dependent work vary depending on parts availability.
Do you provide quotes?
Yes. We provide free quotes for PM contracts, repair work, parts, and new equipment onboarding.
How often does my sterilizer need preventive maintenance?
Most table-top sterilizers like Midmark M9/M11 require semi-annual PMs, while larger Amsco steam sterilizers may require semi-annual or quarterly service depending on the model. We follow manufacturer-recommended intervals to keep your equipment compliant and reliable.
Why is my sterilizer not reaching temperature or pressure?
Common causes include leaking door gaskets, improper tray installation, failing valves, clogged filters, or faulty sensors. We can diagnose and repair these issues on-site.
How often does my anesthesia machine need preventive maintenance?
Each anesthesia machine is different. Some require annual PMs while some require bi-annual checks. It is model-specific.
Why does my anesthesia machine show a low-flow or leak error?
This may be caused by worn seals, faulty hoses, absorber canister issues, loose fittings, or internal leaks. We perform full leak-down testing to identify and repair the problem.
Can you service vaporizers?
We can verify vaporizer functionality and accuracy. For full calibrations and/or rebuilds, vaporizers may need to be sent to an OEM-certified vaporizer service center. We can arrange this for you.
How often should our OR lights be inspected?
Most surgical lights require annual or semi-annual PMs depending on the model. STERIS typically recommends bi-annual checks while Skytron usually recommends an annual service. Again, it is dependent on the model and what the manufacturer recommends.
The OR light arm is drifting. Can you fix this?
Yes. Drifting or sagging is usually caused by worn brake mechanisms, tensioning bolt issues, or improper installation. We can adjust or replace components onsite.
How often should my vital signs equipment be calibrated?
Temperature probes, blood pressure modules, and pulse oximetry systems generally require annual calibration checks. Model may vary the calibration interval.
My Welch Allyn SureTemp Thermometer is giving inaccurate readings. Can it be repaired?
Yes. Inaccurate readings may be caused by probe wear, internal sensor drift, or calibration issues. We can test, recalibrate, or replace the necessary components.
How often does my AED or defibrillator need service?
Most AEDs require annual PMs. Defibrillator PM intervals are identified via manufacturer specifications.
Do patient monitors need regular calibration?
Yes. NIBP, ECG, SPO2, CO2, and temperature modules require annual calibration checks at the minimum to ensure accurate patient readings. The calibration interval depends on the model of patient monitor.
Why is my monitor giving intermittent readings?
This typically indicates worn cables, sensor faults, module issues, or internal calibration drift. We can troubleshoot and fix these onsite.
How often should infusion pumps be serviced?
Most pumps require annual PMs that include pressure tests, occlusion checks, flow-rate verification, and electrical safety inspection.
